More freedom at line of scrimmage for Broncos QB Siemian

The Denver Broncos are back on the winning track after beating the Houston Texans 27-9 on Monday Night Football in Week 7. The team was able to punish the Texans defense with a relentless rushing attack.
As a team, the Broncos rushed for 190 yards on 35 carries with running backs C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker featured early and often.
The Broncos used more of rookie fullback Andy Janovich as well. After playing a mere five snaps in the Week 6 loss to the San Diego Chargers, Janovich was on the field for 31 offensive plays against the Texans.
Clearly, the Broncos wanted to emphasize their rushing attack more in Week 7, but there is a player who had a lot to do with the rushing attack that most won’t be thinking of — quarterback Trevor Siemian.
At his press conference on Tuesday, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak revealed that Siemian is being given more freedom at the line of scrimmage.
“I think he’s getting more comfortable from a call standpoint. He’s not making some of the mistakes that he made earlier in the year. I just think that he’s getting more comfortable game-to-game — how do I handle my team?” Kubiak said.
“Trevor did a great job last night of getting our team in some great runs. Trevor had a lot to do with us running the ball well so we’re getting more comfortable with him, letting him go at the line of scrimmage and giving him some either-or type football plays. ‘You go and handle it.’ I think we’re growing from that standpoint.”
Kubiak knows the success on the ground is going to help the entire offense out — and it could jumpstart the passing game.
“I sure hope it helps. It’s like last night, we started the game placing a lot of quarters, doubling, doubling ‘10’ (Emmanuel Sanders) and ‘88’ (Demaryius Thomas) a bunch. When we got the run game going, they finally brought the safeties down and gave us a chance to get the ball,” Kubiak said.
“The good news is that we put the ball down the field, maybe we didn’t hit it early in the game, but I think it helped us at the end of the game.”
As the Broncos continue through their season, especially their remaining five division games, Siemian’s control will make the Broncos offense less predictable.
