Schefter discusses possible discipline for Broncos Talib

Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib made it back onto the practice field at UCHealth Training Center Monday, but how long he’ll be able to stay there is still up in the air.

It’s the first time Talib’s practiced with the defending Super Bowl champions since a June 5th incident in which the 2015 Pro Bowler suffered gunshot wounds to his right leg, which sidelined until Monday and could sideline him further should the league discipline him.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, joining 104.3 The Fan’s “The Drive with Big Al and DMac” Monday, said he’d be surprised if Talib isn’t not disciplined in “some form or another.”

“I remember initially speaking to somebody, and we were discussing the situation. And we were discussing it in a hypothetical way, because we do not know the exact facts of the situation. It’s a mystery. But the person I was talking to said, ‘I don’t see how this is less than 8 games,’” Schefter said.

He continued: “I don’t what it’s going to be. I’m just telling you what one knowledgeable person told me. Now maybe he’s suspended one game. That could be. Maybe it’s four games, and they appeal it and get it down to two.”

Schefter said the league operates independently of law enforcement investigations, which 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis confirmed is still ongoing in Dallas in the Talib case, and does not like situations involving guns and alcohol, especially “with people who have a history of guns and alcohol.”

“Even if the legal system never brings any charges against Aqib Talib, and he walks away from that situation without any issues, he very much still faces the real possibility that he’s going to be disciplined and disciplined rather severely from the NFL,” Schefter said.

In 2014, Talib’s brother, Yaqub, was arrested in Dallas after a disturbance at a Dallas nightclub. In that incident, a Dallas police spokesperson officer mistakenly tweeted that Aqib Talib had been arrested and later apologized.

In 2015, the two were questioned at the scene of an aggravated assault at a Dallas nightclub.

When asked to detail the situation in June, and if he had shot himself, Talib declined to answer Monday after Broncos practice.

“The situation is still under review and we have to respect that process,” Talib said. “I’m not going to talk about that right now, but I feel great.”
